Priority and the tram
At a junction without signs, shark's teeth or traffic lights you always give way to a tram, even when it comes from the left. If there are shark's teeth or traffic lights for the tram, those apply: then the tram may have to wait.
Watch the animation questionTram from the left at a junction without signsWhat you do in practice
- Do you see tram rails across the junction? Then look extra carefully both ways.
- A tram cannot swerve and brakes poorly: leave plenty of room, even if it still seems far away.
- Turning with a tram beside you? Then too you wait for the tram.
The mistake many people make
Thinking that traffic from the right goes first also applies to the tram. At an uncontrolled junction the tram is exactly the exception.
