Traffic from the right goes first
At an uncontrolled junction (gelijkwaardig kruispunt), without signs, shark's teeth or traffic lights, you give way to everyone coming from the right: cars, cyclists and moped riders. There are two exceptions: whoever comes from an unpaved road lets the traffic on the paved road go first, and a tram always goes first.
Watch the animation questionUncontrolled junction, cyclist from the rightWhat you do in practice
- Look to the right first. If someone is coming from there, you wait, even if they are going to turn.
- A cyclist or moped rider from the right goes first too: the rule applies to all drivers and riders.
- Road users coming from the right and from the left? First the one from the right, then you, then the one from the left.
- A T-junction without signs is an uncontrolled junction too: whoever comes out of the side street on the right goes first.
The mistake many people make
Thinking that the wider or busier road goes first. Without signs or shark's teeth that does not matter: only the right counts, except with an unpaved road or a tram.
